CTC
nursing receives two-year accreditation
The
CTC Department of Nursing recently received notice its Vocational
Nursing Education Program was fully accredited for two years
by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
(NLNAC). An accreditation review was held on campus in September.
This
vocational nursing (LVN) program admits eligible students
who are Licensed Vocational Nurses in Texas or have privileges
to practice in Texas. It requires three semesters to complete
and prepares graduates for professional practice in a variety
of health care settings. Graduates are eligible to receive
an associate of applied science degree.
The
vocational nursing (V.N.) certificate of completion is a
12-month certificate program which enables the graduate
to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical
Nurse (NLCEX-PN®) and prepares graduates for practical/
vocational nursing practice in a variety of health care
settings. The V.N. program provides classroom instruction
and coordinated supervised clinical experiences in
the nursing care of clients in local affiliated health care
agencies
The
CTC nursing associate degree (A.D.N. program) is a prelicensure
nursing program which enables the graduate to take
the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse
(NLCEX-RN®) and prepares graduates for professional
practice in a variety of health care settings. The A.D.N.
program provides classroom instruction and coordinated supervised
clinical experiences in the nursing care of clients in local
affiliated health care agencies.
CTC
also offers a nurse's aide program and the paramedic to
A.D.N. program allowing licensed paramedics to receive an
associate of applied science degree and take the NLCEX-RN
exam to become registered nurses.
NLNAC
is responsible for the specialized accreditation
of nursing education programs including clinical doctorate,
master's degree, bachelor degree, associate degree, diploma
and practical nursing programs. The NLNAC is nationally
recognized as a specialized accrediting agency for
both post-secondary and higher degree programs
in nursing education. Some of its accreditation standards
involve quality faculty and staff, student policies and
development, curriculum, learning resources available and
outcomes.
CTC
scored very well in each of these categories and were commended
for its outcomes of a 94.12 percent pass rate by CTC students
taking the NCLEX-PN (practical/vocational nursing) exam
in 2008.
