Self-Paced with Milestones
Self-Paced Courses with Milestones
Self-Paced Courses with Milestones offer you more flexibility to manage your schedule with fewer deadlines in the course. A small number of milestones (i.e., block due dates) will allow more freedom to plan your time while still allowing you to receive meaningful feedback from your faculty. It also spaces out the material to strengthen your learning.
What is a milestone?
Milestones are block due dates. For example, instead of having a chapter of material due each week, you may have four chapters due at the four-week mark. By spreading out due dates (milestones), you have more freedom to adjust your schedule to meet your personal needs.
How is Self-Paced with Milestones different from a traditional Online course?
Online courses will have regular due dates, often weekly. Self-Paced with Milestones will only have a minimal number of due dates in the course (no more than three).
How will you know when your milestones are due?
When you log into your course in Blackboard, click on Syllabus Page 2 in the left menu to see the milestone due dates for your course.
What should you do if your job/life prevents you from completing assigned work by the milestone?
As with any course, good and early communication with your instructor creates good outcomes. If you know your work will prevent you from having Internet access for three weeks, email your instructor prior to your departure.
