Getting into class

Before we can put you in class, you will be required to participate in our Success Academy course. This course will help you learn how to navigate our programs and help you be successful in your classes. The Success Academy is four days with each day consisting of three hours of instruction for a total of 12 hours. It will be completed in the same week you take your CASAS assessment. If you do not complete this course, we will not be able to place you in your GED/ESL classes.

Progress Assessments

We require all of our students to take progress assessments after 40 hours of instruction. This is to monitor your progress in your classes and will also help us determine if you are ready to take the GED.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

  • Practice speaking, reading and writing English so you can prepare for U.S. citizenship, improve your communication skills for daily interactions, or be able to have conversations with others.
  • Begin or complete your high school equivalency or high school diploma while studying English.
  • Improve you English skills to better communicate at work or improve you English skills to pursue new employment opportunities.
  • Take English as a Second Language classes at Central Texas College to improve your English skills to prepare you to pursue a college certificate or degree.

GED Ready and GED

Students who score high on the CASAS assessment may not need to be placed in a class. These students may be eligible to take the General Education Diploma (GED) Ready. The GED Ready is the practice test for the GED. CTC Adult Education will provide vouchers to cover the cost of the GED Ready. For those students who are 21 years of age or older, we offer up to four vouchers to take the GED.  Find more information about the GED.
